Food therapy for your skin

I’ve been asked lately to post something up on what to eat that will help our skin naturally.  It all comes down to a good diet=great skin theory.  It’s  a plan that was created by dermatologists Valori Treloar, MD coauthor of The Clear Skin Diet, created this plan for women who had problem skin.  Dr. Treloar asked them to follow for 7 weeks this skin diet.  The instructions were simple:

1) Steer clear of white food family: including white bread, cookies, cakes, and crackers.

2) Eat more fiber rich carbs like brown rice, whole-grain pasta, sweet potatoes, and lentils.

3) Cut down on dairy: try soy milk, almond milk, or yogurt.  The fermentation may reduce some of the growth hormones (in cows) that could trigger acne.

4) Avoid processed meats like hot dogs, contains inflammatory omega-6 fats.  When buying meat, opt for the organic & free-range.

5) Fill plate with colorful antioxidant-rich vegetables: such as carrots, spinach, broccoli. (If possible eat them raw)

6) Eat wild-caught oily fish: salmon, mackerel, and sardines.

7) Cook with olive oil: rather than corn or vegetable oil that contain more omega-6 fats.

8) Cut down on alcohol: proven to exacerbate adult acne, eczema, and rosacea.

If possible, Dr. Treloar also recommends eliminating processed carbs entirely for a few months.  Same with dairy (take daily 400 mg calcium supplement with 200-400 mg of magnesium & 1,000 IU of vitamin D instead).

The results after a few weeks testers noticed their face clearing up.

Ways to slim down in your sleep!

Have you ever wanted something to help with losing those extra few pounds? Even after exercising and eating right there are those stubborn extra pounds that won’t go away. Well, I have something that will knock those couple pounds off your waist, or thighs while you sleep. It’s effective and natural without any side effects or needing to take any pills. This is a safe method which I usually add into our weight loss program here at Healthy Green Acupuncture. But for those who don’t really need to lose 10 or 20 lbs this is what I use.

I used it for one night and so far I’ve lost 2 lbs and has also controlled my appetite for sweets. Lately during the day at work when I don’t have time to eat a healthy lunch, I’ve been munching on chocolates, chips and such that has caused my skin to break out. Eating way too much of those delicious 85 degrees bakery breads and Mexican coca cola isn’t necessary healthy but in between treating patients those are the things that I fill up on that has led me to crave it every so often.

The way to break my habit, I’m starting to drink an herbal detox tea (1 bag a day) and also applied our own slimming herbal patch to my navel nightly. It doesn’t cause diarrhea. Also it works well for those who has constipation.

Email me or call me at the clinic! Happy weight loss!

How many ways can you use Coconut oil?…Oh, let me count the ways…

With all the recent hype on Coconut water, I would like to add in some other great benefits you can reap from a coconut.  They sell coconut oil in jars at local health markets.  I found  mine at Whole Foods Market.  There are many types out there: Expeller pressed coconut oil which can be used for many things as well as Virgin coconut oil which mainly is used in cooking that adds a nice aroma to your food.

My favorite uses for coconut oil:

1) As a moisturizer on dry skin

2) Hair conditioner/treatment on the ends of your hair

3) Acne

4) Massage Cream

4) Eye cream

Sleep Apnea anyone?

What’s this sleep apnea?  You may wonder what it is, seen it on tv commercials for drugs that promises to cure you of it but later on there are repercussions to the temporary relief that drug offered to you.   There is alternative & safer method to treat each condition that you’ll gain in the long run.

Sleep apnea is a condition that disrupts the body’s breathing during sleep.  It’s a potentially serious sleep disorder that causes your body’s breathing to repeatedly stop & start.  It affects anyone, but usually affects males over the age of forty.  You may have sleep apnea if you snore loudly & feel tired even though you’ve have a full night’s sleep, daytime sleepiness & fatigue, reduced mental abilities including memory & thinking clearly.

There’s 3 types: Obstructive sleep apnea (most common where the throat muscles relax) & Central sleep apnea (occurs in your brain when it doesn’t send proper signals to the muscles that control breathing.)  Complex sleep apnea, that’s a little bit of both.

Condition of sleep apnea is associated with other medical conditions that may include: Obesity, stroke, cardiovascular (heart problems), impotence, increased blood pressure.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it’s categorized as phlegm-dampness.  Acupuncture treatment would be tailored to person’s body, to clear out phlegm-damp as well as balancing the body’s sleep mechanisms.

Chinese herbs may also be prescribed that can help increase the effects of acupuncture treatments.

Additionally, simple lifestyle alterations are suggested such as subtracting specific foods from diet, increasing light excercises, or mild meditation to decrease stress.

Hope today’s topics gives a bit more insight on what sleep apnea is & how Traditional Chinese Medicine can help!
